Known for her eponymous collection of semiprecious jewelry, custom designed Venetian glass chandeliers and vibrantly colored home décor, designer Dorian Webb returns to her fine arts roots with large scale, gestural paintings of protea. The selection of the earth’s first flowering plant, whose dormant buds can survive wildfires, was a deliberate one.
Protea, a hardy perennial with the ability to flourish in nutrient depleted soil, derives its name from Poseidon’s son, Proteus, who had the power to transform himself at will. With their resilient nature and fiercely bold blooms, Webb sees protea as the floral embodiment of decisive triumph over adversity. Signifying courage, ingenuity and transformation, these flowers remind of the unique gifts we all possess to thrive and inspire.
